EPS 2.0

in

EPS2.0 (the Educational Positioning System) is a comprehensive web-based self-review tool for whole school development, created jointly by CORE Education and Australian education consultant Dr Julia Atkin.

The EPS2.0 online tool is designed to enable you to establish…

  • What the educational landscape looks like, where you are located within it.
  • Where you’d like to be and what you need to do to get there.

The menu on the left proivides you with more information;

Getting started - a list of links to the things you'll need to do to get started wiht using EPS2.0

Using the EPS2.0 online tool - a simple overview of what to do to get started with using the EPS online tool

Feature comparison - and explanation of the options available, complete with a feature comparison chart

EPS slideshow - a presentation used in the introduction of the EPS2.0 tool to teachers, providing some of the philosophical context for its use.

EPS2.0 in the school review process - providing an overview of the complete whole school review and development process, and where the EPS2.0 online tool fits in this.

EPS-Lite

Two different versions of the EPS tool have been created. The EPS-Lite version is free for you to try out in order to become familiar with the features of the tool and introduce you to the dimensions of hte EPS 'wheel' that forms the basis of the feedback you receive.

EPS2.0 is the fully featured version, and requires you to register and pay to use it.

The table below provides an overview of the features of each version:

EPS2.0 in the school review process

Using the EPS2.0 online tool is just one part of the overall process you should consider in your whole school review and development process.

The process outlined below provides an overview of what might be involved, and how CORE can assist.

CORE staff are available to work with senior staff or whole staff prior to the implementation of the EPS2.0. The focus for these sessions is on (a) introducing the EPS2.0 tool, and (b) establishing a readiness for it to be used by staff.
Schools should allow a half or full day for such sessions, depending on the size of the staff and what needs to be covered.

The EPS2.0 online tool has been developed to be used independently by a school, from the online registration process through to the printing out of a customized school report. If preferred, CORE staff may also be employed to facilitate this process – for instance, at a whole school PD day where the survey might be completed by all the staff in a computer lab.

CORE provides an annual subscription-based programme of support for schools who have completed the EPS2.0 which includes:
  • A regular e-newsletter containing updates and information about upcoming events
  • Access to an online community of practice and a pool of online resources to support in-school PD programmes across the 18 EPS dimensions
  • Audio and video conferencing support by arrangement
  • Entitlement to repeat the EPS2.0 survey again at some stage during the 12 month subscription period.

Upon receipt of the EPS2.0 report, schools are in a position to determine priorities for development in the coming year(s).
CORE staff are available to assist with facilitated follow-up meeting(s) leading to the development of an action plan based on the priorities identified by the school through the EPS2.0 process.

Schools may wish to involve CORE staff in an ongoing way to assist in the implementation of the action plan, and the achievement of the action plan goals. CORE staff are available to assist through a programme of ongoing facilitated support, through face to face meetings or via video conferencing, or a combination of these. Because each school’s needs will be different, the nature of this support will need to be negotiated on a case by case basis.
In addition to the negotiated programme of ongoing facilitated support, CORE also offers a range of programmes under its CORE-enable banner that are designed to enable schools to achieve their long term goals and objectives.

Using the EPS2.0 Online Tool

Using the EPS2.0 online in your school is straight forward. Simply register your school to use it and a "key" will be provided for your staff to use when they imput their responses to the initial questionnaire.

Each teacher in a school submits his/her individual responses to a series of 90 statements using the online tool. This process should take approx. 45 minutes, and can be completed at a time and place that suits the individual teacher. Opportunity exists for the survey to be completed in stages rather than in a single sitting.

These responses are then collated and summarized in a whole school report that shows patterns and trends across 18 dimensions of whole school development. The data is presented in a variety of ways using the interactive online reporting process, and can be printed out from a downloadable PDF document that can be stored for future reference.

Feedback provided identifies areas of strength and weakness that can be targetted in future development activities and, in the interactive online environment, provides feedback to suggest next steps that may be taken.

The EPS2.0 online tool provides valuable base-line information for schools embarking on a development process, and can be used again at a later stage to provide evidence of where progress has been made.

Video Conferencing

in

CORE makes effective use of video conferencing as a means of communication and as a mode of delivery for many of its services.

Videoconferencing is a greener alternative to travel by air or road – a factor that’s important to CORE in terms of how it regards its corporate social responsibility. By eliminating the need for our staff to make unnecessary travel by car or plane for short meetings, videoconferencing provides an alternative that provides savings for all involved and delivers immediate reductions in fossil fuel consumption.

In addition, video conferencing enables CORE staff to model effective eLearning practices, combining synchronous and asynchronous modes of provision through the use of an online learning environment.

What is an OLE?

What is an OLE?

An Online Learning Environment (OLE) is the collection of online applications and tools that teachers and students in your school use to engage in learning activities. Typically this might involve the use of one or a combination of a Learning Management System, blogs, wikis, video sharing software and the like.

An OLE can benefit learning programmes in your school by providing an online space:

  • where teachers and students can engage in learning activities outside scheduled classroom time
  • that can be accessed from home, library or internet cafe
  • where digital content to support learning can be stored and organised for students to access
  • that provides a safe and secure environment for learning activities to take place
  • where students, teachers and parents can share in the learning activities independent of time and place
  • where students can work collaboratively on projects
  • where students can publish and share their work.

Many teachers are already using online applications to enhance their learning programmes, and many schools have installed Learning Management Systems as a centrepiece of their online learning environment - but many are struggling to find the most effective way to maximize the potential of this investment.
