CORE’s Early Childhood Education, Information, Communication and Technology Programme (ECEICTPL) Team recently coordinated and hosted 60 Early Childhood Education Teachers at an iLead Conference in Auckland.

The objectives of this two day conference were to promote communities of practice around ICT in ECE, transform pedagogical practice around learning for children(linked to ICT) and to develop leadership in the ECE community.

Julia Atkin was the guest speaker for day one. Her interactive workshop around what is powerful to learn in ECE and how we can challenge and transform teachers own pedagogy was thought provoking and transforming for many teachers.

Day two was lead by CORE’s ECE team and concentrated on supporting the teachers as leaders and the sustainability of ICT in ECE. As a result of day two teachers were able gain ideas for working with their teaching teams and set leadership goals for themselves. They were also able to concentrate and develop ideas and plans for the sustainability of their centres using ICT.

Overall iLead has been a massive success for everyone involved. Teachers left feeling both affirmed and challenged in their roles and have been busy disseminating to their teams some of the key themes and ideas from the conference.
