Daphne Papuni

Being one of those people for whom school days truly were the happiest (she cried when she had to leave), Daphne was able to effectively stay at school by taking up the challenge of teaching. Before starting at CORE she taught in bilingual and immersion Māori units, lectured in Hamilton, and also worked as an RTLB (Resource Teacher: Learning and Behaviour) Māori teacher in Rotorua.
At CORE, Daphne is the Online Facilitator for the QTR&D (Quality Teaching, Research and Development) project Maori medium. The purpose of the QTR&D project is to build on existing knowledge to understand more about quality teaching. Daphne works to supports teachers in Maori immersion settings who are currently working in the QTR&D project. Daphne will also help develop CORE’s work with and within the kura kaupapa Māori educational medium.
Living in the heart of the tourist diamond, Rotorua, Daphne loves to promote her hometown to anyone who’ll listen. As she says, “Rotorua is better known for its beautiful lakes, bubbling mud pools, hissing gysers, traditional mineral pools with their soothing properties and of course, the distinctive smell is also memorable!” Yeah, yeah, don’t worry, we love it too, Daphne…
