Education for Enterprise - a pilot project
Enterprising people will be at the centre of future global competitiveness. To prepare New Zealand for this future, we need our young people to be enterprising, critical and creative thinkers with a can-do attitude. 'Enterprise' is woven throughout the Vision and Principles of New Zealand’s new
Curriculum.
Anne-Marie Kite, of the Canterbury Development Corporation (CDC) (www.outsidethesquare.org.nz) and Gina Revill, from CORE, spoke to an audience of both Industry and Education at last week’s breakfast seminar regarding CDC’s pilot project, the Enterprise Champions Network. This ‘Education for Enterprise’ (E4E) scheme in Canterbury has created an enterprising school culture through:
• In-school support
• Linking business/community and education
• Exposing students to real world and purposeful learning
• The presenters focused on how an
Enterprising attributes include:
• Problem solving
• Seeing and acting on opportunities
• Exploring ideas
• Being flexible
• Taking managed risks
• Persevering
• Taking responsibility
