For its second year in Auckland, KidsCongress, the digital creativity conference for and by kids heads to the underwater and Antarctic wonderland of Kelly Tarlton’s. The KidsCongress Committee for the Auckland event is from Summerland Primary School and they have been flat out preparing for the event organising breakout topics, budgets, invitations for VIPs, media liaison and technical requirements.

KidsCongress is one of a number of educational events run by the educational research and development facility, CORE Education. CORE aims to provide high quality experiences for students and teachers effectively utilising new technologies and Internet applications.

At KidsCongress, students and teachers work together to solve a range of theme-based problems over 2 days using a range of software and multimedia applications.

100 pupils from all over Auckland are expected for the event, now in it’s fifth year. Ten teachers will give up their usual classroom time to come and run the breakout sessions.

The finale for the Congress is an evening “Extravaganza” at Kelly Tarlton’s where the kids can let their hair down and party. Parents will be invited to see all of the hard work and there’ll also be some goodies given away.

“KidsCongress™ is a unique opportunity to do something delightful and different in education. The net result is an opportunity for kids to explore new technologies that they might not get the chance to do in their normal school lives, and the role of CORE Education is to mentor that process.”
